The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has launched a full investigation into the tragic death of 27-year-old Zaria Khadejah Carr of Twin City, Georgia.

SUPPORT THE FAMILY, GOD BLESS YOU

The investigation was initiated at the request of the Twin City Police Department and the Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office following a disturbing domestic incident on the night of Saturday, June 14, 2025.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., law enforcement officers were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of 5th Avenue in Twin City after receiving reports of a domestic disturbance.

Responders from the Twin City Police Department, Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office, and Emanuel County Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene shortly thereafter.

Upon entering the residence, officers found Zaria Carr unconscious. Despite immediate efforts by emergency responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The circumstances surrounding her death prompted an immediate and intensive investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies.

Authorities quickly identified Zaria’s husband, 36-year-old Shamarcus Jameal Carr, also of Twin City, as a person of interest in the case. However, he was not present when law enforcement arrived. In addition, Zaria’s vehicle, a 2021 Dodge Challenger, was missing from the residence.

An alert was issued for the vehicle and Shamarcus Carr’s whereabouts. Just after 11:00 p.m., police in Wayne County, Georgia—approximately 90 miles southeast—located the vehicle.

When deputies from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Shamarcus was found behind the wheel. Before deputies could take him into custody, he shot himself. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Shamarcus Carr’s death is being investigated separately by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, while the GBI continues its independent investigation into Zaria’s death. The GBI Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of Zaria’s death.

“This is a deeply tragic and unsettling case,” said a GBI spokesperson. “Our agents are working diligently to uncover the full sequence of events that led to this devastating outcome.”

At this time, the investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information that could assist in the case to come forward. Tips can be provided to the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Eastman by calling 478-374-6988 or to the Twin City Police Department at 478-763-4140.

Anonymous information can also be submitted through the GBI tip line at 1-800-597-TIPS (8477), online at gbi.georgia.gov/submit-tips-online, or via the “See Something, Send Something” mobile app.

Once the investigation is complete, the GBI will present its findings to the Middle Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for further review and any appropriate legal actions.

The loss of Zaria Khadejah Carr has left the Twin City community in mourning. As more information is revealed through the investigation, officials are reminding the public of the importance of seeking help in situations involving domestic violence.

Support services and resources remain available for those in need, and law enforcement continues to encourage early intervention in volatile domestic situations to help prevent future tragedies.
