It is with profound sorrow that the Dobson, North Carolina, community and the entire Northern Orthopaedics family mourn the passing of Colby Cruise, a devoted Medical Assistant I whose gentle spirit and unwavering kindness left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.
Colby passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind the memory of a life lived with empathy, loyalty, and heart. Born and raised in Surry County, Colby was a proud graduate of Surry Central High School, where he was well known for his friendly camaraderie, positive attitude, and eagerness to help—traits that would shape his life both personally and professionally.
After high school, he pursued his passion for healthcare at Campbell University, gaining both academic knowledge and real-life experience to serve his community with compassion and skill.
At Northern Orthopaedics, Colby held the role of Medical Assistant I, where he navigated a wide range of duties—from preparing patients for examinations and assisting providers, to giving comfort during vulnerable moments.
His colleagues remember him not just for his professionalism, but for his ability to ease patients’ fears with a genuine, reassuring warmth. One coworker reflected, “He made a difference in every room he entered,” an apt testament to Colby’s dedication and caring nature.
Colby was equally known outside work for his authentic personality: quick to laugh, offering a thoughtful comment, or pausing to check in on a friend in need.
His local impact extended to community events, whether volunteering at health fairs or showing up for school fundraisers. His presence exuded dependability, humility, and a rare attentiveness that made people feel seen.
To his close friends, Colby was unforgettable. One heart-touching tribute reads:
“Colby, I’ll never forget the kindness you’ve shown me over the past five years. You were raised right and left a mark on everyone lucky enough to know you. You’ll forever be my crab leg buddy but now I’ll just have to look up at the sky to tell you when they’re on sale at the store. I know you’re living it up up there, and I’ll be blasting Eric Church extra loud for you. You are deeply missed. Please pray for the Cruise family.”
These words highlight Colby’s playful spirit—and his love for crab legs, Eric Church, and shared memories. They remind us of the everyday moments that tell the truest stories of a person’s life: a joyful dive into a musical note, a shared table spread, and the bond of friendship.
To those closest to him, he was a beloved son, sibling, cousin, and confidant—someone always ready with a text of encouragement, a ride to an appointment, or just to spend quiet time together. His sincerity made others feel safe in sharing their burdens and hopes.
Although his professional career was just beginning, Colby’s path already showed a lifetime of caring. At Northern Orthopaedics, he was considered a rising star—always open to learning, compassionate in practice, and admired by both patients and peers.
His ability to combine efficiency with empathy made him a cornerstone in his department and someone others aspired to emulate. Colby is survived by his loving family and a wide circle of friends whose lives he brightened.
His loss is felt deeply—from the halls of Campbell University to the examination rooms at Northern Orthopaedics, from the corridors of Surry Central High to the local seafood spots where “crab leg buddy” memories were created.
A celebration of Colby’s life will be announced by the Cruise family. They invite all who knew him to gather in fellowship, sharing stories, favorite songs (especially Eric Church), and perhaps a crab leg feast in tribute. Until then, his loved ones hold tight to his spirit by looking up at the sky and hearing in the breeze the echo of his laughter and kindness.
In remembering Colby Cruise, we honor more than a career or a role—we celebrate a life marked by genuine care, simple joys, and a love that spread from professional halls to circle of friends. Colby, may your memory shine on in each act of compassion and every lifted song. You are deeply missed.
